The Heart of Wakefield Heritage Trail

Wood Street, The Heart of Wakefield is a Heritage Lottery funded project exploring the rich architectural and social history of Wood Street, Wakefield.

Wakefield Council is delivering this project in partnership with Wakefield Historical Society, Wakefield Civic Society and Leeds Beckett University, celebrating the history of an important local street. Wood Street, the Heart of Wakefield, is an inter-generational project about how people, buildings and events, on one street, helped to shape the Wakefield District.

Throughout October 2017 - March 2018 there are several exhibitions to be found in various venues around Wakefield celebrating and interpreting information uncovered during the Heart of Wakefield Project, for a range of audiences. From lamppost banners to museum displays, community made textile artworks to pull up banners, visit spaces around the city centre and look for the Heritage Trail logo. This site exists as a record of the materials in the exhibition, interpreted here for a wider audience to explore. You can find more information about the whole project here
